Hilton Tokyo Bay: Happy Magic themed hotel room

Hilton Tokyo Bay is one of six Tokyo Disney Resort Official Hotels located within Tokyo Disney Resort. It offers a range of benefits including its close proximity to the Disney parks, and it even has themed rooms! We recently spent a night in a Happy Magic Room at Hilton Tokyo Bay.

Being big fans of Tokyo Disney Resort and of anything with a fun or quirky theme, we knew that sooner or later we were going to have to spend a night at one of Hilton Tokyo Bay’s Happy Magic rooms. We’d stayed at Hilton Tokyo Bay in the past and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, so it was about time we tried out the Happy Magic room.

Here is a video room tour that I put together:

Note: The Happy Magic rooms are very much family-friendly. This means that they’re made to appeal to young children moreso than the average themed hotel (more than Tokyo Disneyland Hotel’s themed rooms, for example). If you’re interested in staying at the this hotel but you’re looking for something more grown-up, head over to my post on the Hilton Tokyo Bay Celebrio rooms.

The first thing that you’ll notice as you check into your Happy Magic room is that the person at the counter will give you some envelopes addressed to ‘My Soon-to-be Friend’. The guy who checked us in was extremely professional (as we have come to expect at the Hilton – their service is always great), but I admit that he did look a little sheepish as he handed these to my partner and I. I guess they’re more used to handing these out to the children of the families staying in these rooms! But more about these envelopes later…

The second thing that you’ll notice will be when you exit the lift into the foyer of your floor. The way that the Hilton Tokyo Bay is laid out is that different room types are on different floors, so all of the rooms on the Happy Magic floors will be Happy Magic Rooms. The foyers of the Happy Magic floors are fantastic. From the carpet to the ceiling, the walls, and even the giant tree-trunks, everything is in keeping with the Magic Forest theme.

Above: The doorknobs are squishy. I’ve never stayed in a seriously family-friendly hotel room before, so I’m not sure whether this is the norm or not, but I thought it was a nice touch that they’d put thought into making the room a little safer for young children.

Above: Slippers – so many slippers! If it wasn’t already obvious that this is a super family-friendly hotel room, that’s the evidence right there! (No you can’t take the slippers home.)

Above: In the drawers in the wardrobe you’ll find a safe and some hotel pyjamas. I counted three pairs of adult’s pyjamas (also suitable for older kids) and one pair of children’s pyjamas. (No, you can’t keep these, either.)

Our Happy Magic room had three beds.

Rather than regular fabric curtains, the windows feature rice-paper screens to let in some light whilst retaining privacy, as well as wooden screens to completely block out the light.

The bathroom is pretty much exactly what you’d expect. Enough room to move, and featuring your typical Japanese toilet complete with all of the bells and whistles (heated seat, bidet, etc).

Even the shower curtain is in keeping with the theme.

Here are the letters that we were given upon check-in.

The mirror near the window is interactive – this is Tiara’s Magic Mirror. Press the button next to the mirror and Tiara will appear.

The other interactive feature is the Magic Key which is located near the bed.

The giant key hanging by the wall can be used to “unlock” the gate on the wall. It makes a sound and the shamrock lights up in green.

Last but not least there are two books, Little Witch Tiara and the Magic Forest and Little Witch Tiara and Happy Magic. I’m afraid I forgot to check whether the books have any English wording or not! I believe the books can also be purchased at the hotel.

View from the Happy Magic room:

Depending on which view you want, you can either book a ‘Happy Magic Room Park’ or a ‘Happy Magic Room Ocean’. We stayed in a ‘King Celebrio Park‘ room the previous time, so this time we were keen to see what the ocean view was like.

Above: Looking directly down, we could see a pool, and what appears to be a roof-top zen garden.

We didn’t have the nicest weather upon our arrival (above), but the following morning the ocean view was quite nice (see below).

We’d heard that on a good day, you can see Mount Fuji from DisneySea and also from the Hilton Tokyo Bay (if you have an ocean view room). Turns out it’s true!

Above: See the white triangle above the hills in the distance? That’s Mount Fuji. We didn’t get the perfect weather, but in the morning before the haze set in, we could just make it out in the distance.

Above: Here’s a close-up where I’ve circled Mount Fuji. Now you’ll know where to look if you get a room with an ocean view. Sometimes it’s just too cloudy/hazy to see it, but if you get clear sky early in the morning, keep an eye out as this will be your best opportunity to be able to see it.

Getting around Tokyo Disney Resort from Hilton Tokyo Bay:

Being one of the six Tokyo Disney Resort Official Hotels, Hilton Tokyo Bay is located conveniently within the Tokyo Disney Resort premises. There are two easy options to get from the hotel to the theme parks.

The most efficient way to get around Tokyo Disney Resort is on the Tokyo Disney Resort Line, which is a monorail that stops at Bayside Station – located just two minutes’ walk from Hilton Tokyo Bay – as well as both Disneyland and DisneySea, and also Resort Gateway Station (which connects JR Maihama Station to Tokyo Disney Resort). Whilst you do need to pay to take the monorail, this is by far my preferred option as it is much faster and more pleasant than the bus.

The other option is the Disney Resort Cruiser, which is a fleet of buses that guests of the six Tokyo Disney Resort Official Hotels, along with the Disney Ambassador Hotel, can use for free.

Getting to Hilton Tokyo Bay and checking in:

Getting to Hilton Tokyo Bay is really easy. Catch the train to JR Maihama Station as if you’re heading to one of the Disney parks. As you exit the station, go to the Tokyo Disney Resort Welcome Centre – this is just to the left after you exit Maihama Station, just next to Ikspiary (the shopping centre located within TDR).

When you walk into the welcome center, a staff member will greet you and direct you to go downstairs (the upstairs area is for the three main Disney Hotels, whereas downstairs is for the Tokyo Disney Resort Official Hotels). There is a separate counter for each hotel. Here you’ll sign the paperwork, drop off your luggage (they’ll deliver it straight to your room free of charge), purchase tickets to the Disney parks, etc. We took this option the first time we stayed at Hilton Tokyo Bay, and when we arrived, we were given two options to check into our room. If we were willing to wait until 5pm, they could give us our room keys straight away so that we didn’t need to line up at the hotel later on – this worked for us since we were going to be at Disneyland anyway and in no hurry to get to our room.

This time we actually caught a taxi all the way from Shibuya straight to the entrance of Hilton Tokyo Bay because we had a lot of luggage and wanted to avoid catching the train. It took about half an hour so obviously this was not the most cost-effective option, but it was a lot easier. The taxi dropped us off right at the entrance and passed our luggage over to a staff member who put it on a trolley and took it all the way to our room for us – we didn’t have to lift a thing! We then checked in at the front desk and, as we’d arrived late in the afternoon, were able to head straight to our room.

Booking.com

Booking your stay at the Hilton Tokyo Bay hotel:

We booked our stay through Booking.com because we were able to get a better deal this way than booking directly through the Hilton. We tend to either book directly via the website of the hotels that we stay at, or we use Booking.com as we have had very positive experiences with this service (please note for transparency’s sake that these links contain affiliate codes and I may receive commission if you book via these links – I am only recommending this service as I genuinely use this myself).
