Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta: rooms, facilities and comparisons

Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta is five-star hotel located within the DisneySea theme park (right next door to Tokyo Disneyland). The jewel on the crown of Tokyo Disney Resort’s official hotels, staying at MiraCosta means enjoying both luxury accommodation and the convenience of staying inside the park. The Italian style hotel makes up part of the scenery of Tokyo DisneySea which includes a Mediterranean Harbor and a Venetian canal complete with gondolas. Some of the rooms offer gorgeous views over ‘Venice’ while others have magnificent views of the harbor where you can enjoy the water shows and fireworks from your own window. In this post we’ll compare two of the room types and look at the hotel facilities.

Evangelion World: interactive anime exhibition at Fuji-Q Highland

Evangelion: World is an attraction at Fuji-Q Highland (富士急ハイランド), an amusement park located at the foot of Mt Fuji. As the name suggests, Evangelion: World – or Eva World for short – is all about the popular anime series, Evangelion. Rather than a ride, this is a permanent exhibition with everything from life-size models to museum-like displays, original artwork and plenty of interactive installations for some great photo opportunities.

TDR Restaurant Review: Oceano at Disneysea’s Hotel MiraCosta

Oceano is one of the three restaurants located inside DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta which is the 5 star hotel situated within Tokyo Disneysea. It serves both a Mediterranean-style buffet and a course menu. The course menu is some serious fine dining, and it’s no wonder that Oceano’s course menu is one of the most expensive dinners you can get at Tokyo Disney Resort.

Hanami: cherry blossom season

April is the middle of spring in Japan, and this means that cherry blossom season is in full swing. Sakura (桜, さくら or サクラ) is Japanese for cherry blossoms, and they bloom from late March until early May. During this time, Japanese locals enjoy hanami (花見) which means “flower viewing”. Hanami can include anything from a stroll through a park with sakura in bloom, to picnics during the day or even at night under the cherry blossom trees. And of course, no celebration would be complete without themed cakes and other goodies!

TDR Restaurant Review: The Teddy Roosevelt Lounge at Tokyo Disneysea

The Teddy Roosevelt Lounge is a lounge and bar located on the second floor of the giant Titanic-like ship, the SS Columbia, in the American Waterfront area of Tokyo Disneysea. Whereas the fine-dining restaurant on the third floor, the SS Columbia Dining Room, is where you might choose to have a three course dinner, the Teddy Roosevelt Lounge is an ideal place to sit down and enjoy a cocktail, or perhaps a snack or light meal, in style.

Kirin Ichiban-shibori Garden Brewery Experience: a beer garden in Shibuya

The Kirin Ichiban-shibori Garden Brewery Experience is/was a mobile Kirin beer garden located in Shibuya. We stumbled upon it whilst looking for Ivorish (an amazing French toast cafe which I’ll write about in a future post) during our trip in October/November 2014. Being a ‘mobile’ beer garden, I’m not sure how long it was there for, but with the weather still warm when we visited, it was a welcome find for an evening drink.

TDR Restaurant Review: The Blue Bayou Tokyo Disneyland

The Blue Bayou is one of the ‘table service’ restaurants at Tokyo Disney Resort. Like the Blue Bayou at Disneyland in the US, the restaurant at Tokyo Disneyland is located inside the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, within the New Orleans part of Adventureland. An interesting aspect of the Blue Bayou, perpetually lit to feel like night time, is that the waterfront restaurant shares the same river as the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. In a way, the ride enhances the feel of the restaurant, and while you’re on a boat in the ride, the restaurant gives the ride itself a more realistic feel.
